Xabi Alonso’s Way of the Cross

After being acquitted by the Provincial Court of Madrid of the accusation of three tax crimes, the soccer player Xavi Alonso, one of the few exceptions to the general trend of yielding to the blackmail of the Treasury, has seen how a new front is opened for him. The Economic Crimes Section of the Madrid Prosecutor’s Office has filed a new complaint against the former soccer player for allegedly committing a tax offense during a different fiscal year than the one that motivated the sentence of the Provincial Court of Madrid, 2014, and accuses him of fraud amounting to 840,017 euros.

It is regrettable the ability of the Tax Administration to persist in attacking a taxpayer for the same facts that have already been judged. And the worst thing is that this practice is suffered by numerous taxpayers who see their companies closed by the harassment of the tax authorities, without having the same resources as the soccer player to defend themselves.
